Your renewable energy questions answered
When you join a 100% renewable electricity tariff, nothing about your home set up changes. You are still supplied by the national grid. However, all of the electricity you use over the year will be matched by power generated by UK based renewable generators.
And at Good Energy, we go one step futher: we aim to match the power our customers are using with renewable generation in real time. In 2025, we achieved an 88% half-hourly match between generation and demand, making us the top ranked supplier for time-matching in the UK.

Most companies offering renewable energy tariffs don’t buy all their power directly from renewable generators. Instead they rely on buying enough renewable energy certificates to label their power as green.
At Good Energy, we have contracts directly with over 3,000 independent renewable generators, carefully selected to offer a portfolio that reflects how our customers are using electricity. What’s more, we aim to match the power our customers use with renewable generation in real time. In 2025, we achieved a leading 88% match, making us the top ranked supplier for time-matching in the UK.

Fixed tariffs are electricity and / or gas tariffs that offer a fixed price for a set period of time – normally 12 months. Variable tariffs on the other hand are subject to change every three months, normally in line with energy price cap changes.
It’s simple to switch energy suppliers. Simply fill out our online form with your home and energy information, click switch and we will get in touch with your existing energy supplier.
It takes on average 3-5 days for your switch to complete. It will take a little longer if you are joining a Smart Time of Use tariff, as we need to set up your meter to send half-hourly meter readings.
If you change your mind, you have a 14-day cooling off period during which you can cancel your switch.
Yes, you can switch supplier if you have a Smart meter. You may need to send manual readings for a short while as we get it connected.
A dual fuel tariff means you are paying for your electricity and your gas from one supplier. If you live off the gas grid, or have electric heating, you will just need an electricity tariff (single fuel).

Gas reaches you through the national gas grid. We match every customer’s gas usage over the course of the year with a minimum of 10% renewable biogas. We offset all of the carbon emissions from our gas customers by investing in Gold Standard projects that improve access to renewable energy around the world.
